Check out “UR-GENCY,” a video release from Pamela Maurer’s HLDAY MAGIK that addresses the male gaze and consumerism, especially as it relates to the ideas of beauty and femininity as products.
Here’s more about the project: HLDAY MAGIK is a new performance art meets bedroom pop project from Chicago based musician, Pamela Maurer (aka Baby Money). Her new release, MUSIC 4 UR EARS, is a 7 song visual album inspired by love and dating (and 2020 and...). The album consists of 7 unique music videos (one for each song), tied together with a loose narrative in the form of a QVC-esque home shopping show. Featuring 7 new, original songs of dreamy pop music written and performed by Pamela Maurer (aka Baby Money), and produced by Brbra Bush.
All videos were remotely filmed on cellphones while quarantining, and allow the viewer a glimpse into the strangeness of our new means of connection while following the players in their isolation. Through collaboration, the exploration of new means of creating and performing, defining a visual language, and uniting remote performances through design, MUSIC 4 UR EARS is hopefully the start of something new. A crush. A wish. A secret hope. Is love a tangible good ready for market, or is there more to it than that?
