Artists of the Wall 2018-present
The Artists of the Wall Festival is one of our favorite Rogers Park traditions, and Third Estate Art loves running the kids’ art tent. The tent is always full of sample arts and crafts as well as tons of supplies for free play. Because we are at heart a social justice-based art group, we always bring a project that reflects both our mission and the festival’s theme. In 2018, we hosted a Pride-themed craft where we asked folks to show us what love and family mean to them. In 2019, we asked kids to reflect on what they love about our community. Because of COVID-19, Artists of the Wall went virtual in 2020 and offered a socially distanced version in 2021. We were still able to provide the neighborhood with take home craft kids that year.
In 2022, we were so grateful to be back in person. The theme of 2022’s Artists of the Wall Festival was “World of Tomorrow,” and we brought an ornament making activity that asks kids to construct a world they want to live in. And for 2023, we leaned into the idea of free play and letting kids create their own stories with the material for the festival’s anniversary theme, “Stories of the Wall.”
