Three Works by R.Drada

American Flag

From R.Drada: “American Flag” displays a nude female figure amidst a streaming battlefield of colors. It is a marked contrast to the clothed, sacred Lady Liberty figure and suggests that rebellion is a celebrated thing, but only for people in America that fit a specific subset of society.

Woman before a Mirror

“Woman Before a Mirror” captures the surreal musing reflection of an Asian woman with the colors of the American Flag in sharp abstract parts behind her. Her face appears as a skull, as she ponders the strangeness of her “non-American” look and the ongoing attacks against women who look like her.

Woman with Paranoia

“Woman with Paranoia” touches upon the themes of public safety for women by themselves. A woman walking alone is surrounded by her paranoia. She shows us a bloodied hand as an example of violence that can easily fall upon her. Yet her face shows shame in the face of daring to make a complaint.
