I am a soldier now.
I look for limbs
where blankets lay flat
beneath the torso
of a child
and I guard
a dying man
I hate.
Rusted metal ledgers
fade as they pass
from moment to memory
and man
to me
to dust.
I inhale.
About the author: Pamela Nocerino writes, acts, teaches, and once helped build a giant troll in the Rocky Mountains. She taught public school students for over 20 years and raised two wonderful sons.
